Richie was born on December 31st 1980. He went to Otago Boys High School. After he went to high school , he went to Lincoln University. At Lincoln, he was selected to play for the under-19's team. The following year he played for the under-21's for Canterbury in the National Provincial Championship before debuting for the Crusaders in 2001. He was playing on the field for 8 minutes.
In 2001, Richie made his debut for for the All Blacks in the end of year tour against Ireland. He made a big impact to the All Blacks by taking them to the quarter finals in the Rugby World Cup 2007. He made an even bigger impact 4 years later as the captain of the All Blacks and taking them to glory in the 2011 world cup by beating France in the finals.
This year will be his last year as a professional rugby player. This will be the end of his career. He is a great rugby player who will be remembered by many. Richie has been amazing over the years and made history in rugby.
